The Forest School provides a unique, enriching outdoor learning experience designed to nurture children’s holistic development—physically, emotionally, socially, and cognitively. Through carefully planned activities and free exploration in our recently renovated Secret Garden, your children will develop a deeper connection to nature, build confidence and independence, and cultivate a lifelong curiosity about the natural world. Activities may occasionally include controlled risks, such as using peelers or pen knives under careful supervision, which are known to significantly benefit children’s development by building confidence, resilience, and important life skills. Each session integrates mindfulness and practical skills, with engaging activities like working with clay, exploring chalk and natural resources, gardening, and preparing simple outdoor meals, all carefully linked to the National Curriculum. Safety and well-being are at the heart of everything we do; clear guidelines and routines ensure a secure yet stimulating environment.
Clothes:
The philosophy of the Forest School is spending time outdoors in all weather conditions (with exception to adverse weather). Thus, the appropriate clothing is essential.
The school is in the process of ordering waterproofs for the children. However, if you wish your child to wear their own raincoats, please don’t forget to bring them each Friday.
Wellies are essential too. Please send them with your child, in a separate bag to wear at the Forest School. The school accepts donations of wellies if your child has outgrown them.
Food:
At the Forest School lessons children might be offered some homemade lemonade, hot chocolate, biscuits, or vegetable or fruit snacks. From time to time we will be cooking something outdoors on fire. Please remember to return the Medical Information Form, so that I am aware of any allergies or food intolerances.
Volunteers:
Parents are warmly invited to volunteer at our sessions—please send a message beforehand if you’d like to join us. A valid DBS check is required.
Together, let’s inspire a love for nature and create joyful, memorable outdoor experiences.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask me at school or send me an email.
See you in the school garden!
